Karaoke FAQ

What`s the difference between CD+G & DVD?
These are the two main different formats which Karaoke discs are made. CD+G is by the most popular format for Karaoke in the UK. When buying CD+G discs please make sure your Player is compatible with the CD+G format (most normal DVD Players will not play CD+G discs).
What is a CD+G Karaoke Disc?
CD+G stands for Compact Disc + Graphics (also known CDG or CD+Graphics). A CD+G is a compact disc with graphics in addition to the audio track found on a normal music CD. CD+G discs have on screen lyrics over a blue or plain background. They play on CD+G players. Most Karaoke machines eg: Arbiter, Singing Machine, Goodmans, Sunfly, VocoPro etc. use these discs. Some VCD & DVD Players will also play them. They will also play on a normal CD player for use as backing tracks but of course you don`t get any on screen lyrics.
What is a DVD Karaoke Disc?
DVD stands for Digital Versatile Disc. Most DVD Karaoke discs have on screen lyrics over a blue or plain background. Some do have a MTV type video in the background as well. They only play on DVD players. Most home Karaoke Machines Do Not play them.
What is a custom Karaoke disc?
If you want specific songs that you can’t find on ready-made discs (without having to buy lots of discs), have a disc custom made with just the songs you want. Now the choice is yours, you can use CustomBurn or Selectatrack to custom make your own Karaoke disc, in either CD+G or DVD format.
What`s the difference between a backing track & Karaoke?
A Karaoke track is a re-creation of the original song, minus just the lead singer(s). Most include the backing vocals that were on the original version. A backing track is usually just an instrumental version without any vocals at all. Many singers & solo artists do use Karaoke discs as backing tracks, but please make sure that backing vocals are ok for you before ordering.
How Can I create my own custom Karaoke disc?
Just click the Custom Burn or Selectratrack links in the Karaoke section where you can create your very own custom Karaoke disc.
Can I download Karaoke tracks?
Yes, just click the Downloads link in the Karaoke section to visit Selectatrack or Karaoke CC where you can instantly download tracks in MP3+G format. There is also some free software that allows you to play your track on your PC, with on screen lyrics. Alternatively click the iKO link to visit the iKO Store, where you can download karaoke videos for your iPod.
Are Karaoke tracks by Original Artists?
99.9% of Karaoke discs do not feature the original artists but are faithful re-creations using session musicians. There are a few that have been made that do use the original backings (Motown & Disney etc) but this is rare as getting access to the original master & re-mixing the track less the Lead Vocals would be impractical & expensive!
